Sheltered Housing for older people At Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, we understand that housing needs can change as you get older. Perhaps you no longer want the worry of maintaining a larger family home or you are concerned about not being able to access help and support if you need it. If this applies to you, then our specialist housing for older people could be just what you’re looking for.

What we offer

We can offer a range of specialist housing designed with the needs of older customers in mind. These include one and two bedroom bungalows, one-bedroom flats and studio apartments across Macclesfield, Knutsford, Wilmslow & surrounding areas. All our properties are well maintained and meet our high standards of repair.

All of our tenants benefit from our repairs service, which is included in your rent payments. All it takes is a phone call to our Freephone customer care centre, and a specialist plumber, electrician or joiner will visit your home and carry out the repair work needed (subject to the terms of our tenancy agreement). Emergency repairs can be reported via a 24 hour emergency hotline.

Help at hand

Tenants in housing for older people also benefit from our Community Support Service. This includes access to a 24 hour emergency alarm system, which is fitted in all our properties so that if anything happens you can call for help immediately. Calls are assessed and are responded to by: calling emergency services, sending one of our Community Support Officers out to help or contacting your family to alert them to the situation.

Customers can also receive regular calls and visits from our Community Support Officers to check on their wellbeing. You can choose the level of service you receive, with the aim of giving you and your family the peace of mind to know that help is always at hand if you need it.

Features of our schemes

Much of our housing for older people is contained within a single communal building or ‘scheme’. Some of the benefits our schemes can offer are:

  • Well maintained communal areas, such as lounges and conservatories
  • Safe and secure door entry systems
  • Maintained gardens and grounds
  • Guest rooms for visitors
  • Free car parking
  • Some specialist facilities, such as assisted bathing

Part of a community

One of the main benefits of living within one of our specialist schemes is the sense of community that comes from living with others. Resident lounges are used for a range of social activities such as coffee mornings, bingo and keep fit classes, to which other local residents are also invited. People can often feel isolated as they get older, but within one of our schemes there’s always something to do and someone to talk to.

“For me, moving into housing for older people has been a way to retain my independence with help available if I need it. I can continue to live a normal, active life, surrounded by a real community of people who look out for one another.”

JP, Resident
