Hurdsfield Clean-up day is supported by New Cheshire East Chief Executive
30th October 2008

The recently appointed Chief Executive of the new Cheshire East Council, Erika Wenzel joined Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust staff on a clean-up day held in Hurdsfield on 29th October.

With litter-pickers and bin-liners in gloved hands, volunteers - which also included, local residents, staff from Groundworks and Macclesfield Borough Council and young people from the local youth group - teamed up to pick litter, remove discarded items such as supermarket trolleys and give the area a general tidy-up.

Henshaw’s skip hire supplied skips at 4 different sites around the estate, which were filled and replaced several times during the day. Wheelie bins for recyclable waste were also made available. Work commenced at 12:30pm with volunteers still on the streets of Hursdfield at 4pm! Although everyone was tired and cold by the end of the afternoon, a good time was had by all.

The clean-up day was organised in order to encourage local residents to be proud of their environment and as well as encourage team working between the Trust, local residents and key agencies. Community Initiatives Officer at the Trust, Sam Lloyd-Jones, led in planning the day and said that: “It was great to see so many people get together for the good of the local community. We are committed to improving environments at a very local level as well as on a large scale and getting local residents and partners involved in taking pride in where they live is vital. We were particularly pleased to see Erika Wenzel out there supporting the event. I would like to thank everyone that got involved.”
