Winlowe gardens are winning
15th May 2008

Residents of Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust’s sheltered scheme Winlowe in Bank Street, Macclesfield will be enjoying a lovely garden this summer thanks to a gardening impact day!

Winlowe, which is specifically designed for the needs of older people, has over 30 residents many of whom are over 65. They have been holding a variety of events over recent months to raise funds for their scheme, including raffles, coffee mornings and afternoon fairs.

They’ve now decided to invest over £100 into their communal garden. This will include developing an attractive rose garden at the front of the scheme to welcome visitors, and a sensory herb garden in the back for residents to enjoy. The plants have all been bought from Macclesfield Garden Centre.

Staff from the Trust will be taking part in a gardening impact day at the scheme on Friday 2nd May to plant the new purchases, as well as conducting a general tidy up of the communal garden. In addition to supplying the plants, residents will be helping out with the gardening and providing refreshments for everyone involved.

Community Involvement Officer, James Burton, says “We are delighted to be supporting the residents of Winlowe with their investment into the communal garden, and I’m sure the impact day will be a great success. The garden is a valuable resource that residents can share and enjoy throughout the summer months, and we hope that our efforts meet with their approval!”
