Here at Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, we understand what a busy time this can be as you prepare to move into your new home. We hope that this information will help your move go as smoothly as possible.
Be prepared - start packing as soon as possible to ensure you can get everything done in time and that you don’t forget anything
Return your keys - please make sure all the keys for the property are returned to us by 12 noon on the date your tenancy ends, otherwise you will be charged for another week
Don’t forget - remember to phone all your suppliers to let them know about the date of your move and your new address
People you might want to contact include:
· Your current landlord – you will need to give them notice so that you do not owe rent after you move
· Electricity Supplier
· Gas Supplier
· Water Supplier
· Telephone company
· Housing Benefit
· Council Tax
· DSS
· Inland Revenue
· Television Licence
· Bank/Building Society
· Employer
· DVLA (Driving Licence)
· School
· Doctor
· Dentist
· You will also need to go to the Post Office and get your post redirected
Make sure that you take all your belongings with you when you leave. This means you need to:
· Empty the loft
· Clear the gardens
· Remove all floor coverings & furnishings
· Remove built in furniture you have fitted, such as wardrobes and shelves
· Remove all your white goods and kitchen appliances
On the day you move don’t forget to record the meter readings for your existing gas/electric/water supply and then when you get to your new home read the meters and let the gas/electric suppliers know . This will ensure that you don’t get charged for any energy used by anyone else.
If you are a current Trust tenant it is worth noting that we operate a re-charging policy, which means that you will be held responsible for any costs associated with clearing your belongings from the property after you’ve gone. Also if you have caused damage to your property which needs to be repaired, you will also be responsible for these costs.
If you are moving into or out of one of our properties we would like to wish you every success in your new home.
If you would like any more advice on any of these issues contact us on Freephone 0800 012 1311 (it may be cheaper to call 0330 440 9707 from a mobile), email trust@cppht.com or write to Cheshire Peaks & Plains Housing Trust, Ropewalks, Newton Street, Macclesfield, SK11 6QJ
