If you have recently married or if you have long term partner (including same sex partners) you might want to consider entering into a joint tenancy.
You will need to provide evidence such as:
· A marriage certificate
· Proof that your partner has lived in your home for 12months as their principle home and that it is their intention to continue to do so
Before a joint tenancy will be agreed:
· Your rent account must be completely up to date
· There should be no legal action or Notice Seeking Possession pending
It is important that both you and you prospective joint tenant understand that by entering into a joint tenancy:
· Neither of you will have exclusive control over the property
· The right to buy/ acquire your home will only be joint
· In the event of the death of either tenant the other would automatically succeed, before any other member of the family could lay claim to the property
